What is Beating the Blues?
‘Beating the Blues’ is a computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme that has been proven to help people suffering with mild and moderate depression to get better and stay better.
It is a way of helping people to learn to cope with anxiety and depression and has been recommended for use by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
‘Beating the Blues’ is being made available through all GP practices in Northern Ireland.

The Patient and Client Council and the Bamford Monitoring Group are asking patients about their experience of using the ‘Beating the Blues’ programme.
We want to know what people think about ‘Beating the Blues’ and if they consider it to be a useful treatment option.

We will report our findings to the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Health and Social Care Organisations and other interested groups.
Information for GPs
Use the following link to access an information poster which you can display in the reception areas and waiting rooms of your GP surgery to inform patients about the online ‘Beating the Blues’ questionnaire.
Use the following link to view a copy of the patient questionnaire – this is for GP information only, patients should complete the questionnaire online using the survey monkey link, as above.
Remember – Patient participation in completing the online questionnaire is entirely voluntary. What people tell us will inform officials at the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety and the Health and Social Care Board regarding how patients feel about using the programme and give direct patient reported evidence of the usefulness of this treatment.
