We are the Patient and Client Council

The Patient and Client Council is your voice on health and social care issues. We have local offices throughout Northern Ireland, in Lurgan, Omagh, Broughshane, and Belfast.

We are here to:

1.         Listen and act on people’s views

2.         Encourage people to get involved

3.         Help people make a complaint

4.         Provide advice and information

The Patient and Client Council has a management Board made up of locally elected representatives, members of the community and voluntary sector, interested members of the public and trade unions.  The membership of the Board is drawn from across Northern Ireland and meets in public on a monthly basis across Northern Ireland.

Local Advisory Committees (LACs) have been set up in the five health and social care trust areas.  Each Committee is chaired by a member of the Patient and Client Council Board and is made up of local people, whose role is to advise the Patient and Client Council on issues in the local area.

The Bamford Monitoring Group was set up by the Patient and Client Council, to capture the views and experiences of members of the public, people with mental health needs, learning disabilities, families and carers in relation to the changes being made to services in Northern Ireland resulting from the Bamford Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability.

Over the past year we have provided help and support to over 600 people who wanted to make a complaint about services.  We have been in contact with over 4000 patients and clients throughout Northern Ireland to gather their views and concerns on issues including alcohol, dental services, G.P. services and end of life care.  Throughout June this year, we have held a series of road shows in Armagh, Ballymena, Belfast, Derry and Bangor.  The events gave people the opportunity to ask decision makers about their health and social care.

Working ahead into Autumn and Winter this year, we will be talking to people about the role of ward managers and what quality services mean to people.  We will be campaigning for changes as a result of issues raised by the public and will continue to support individuals, groups and communities to be involved in decisions affecting their health and social care.
