Today is World Mental Health Day and the Bamford Monitoring Group, part of the Patient and Client Council, has published evidence to show that while there are positive changes beginning to take place in mental health services, there is an enormous amount of work yet to be done to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Louise Skelly from the Patient and Client Council says:
“There is frustration out there at the slow pace of change and concern that a lack of resources and funding may undermine future progress to improve mental health services. People want to be involved and want to have their voice heard, after all, no one knows better what carers and service users need than carers and service users”.
People have identified areas for development including the need for continued work to support community based mental health services, improve access to services for people in crisis, and to improve collaborative working between statutory and the community and voluntary sector.
