The Patient and Client Council’s Local Advisory Committee has met with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust to share and discuss the views and experiences of patients attending hospitals in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust area, carried out by the Trust recently.
Carolyn Kerr, Deputy Director of Nursing for the Northern Health and Social Care Trust said
“We have spoken to patients to understand their views and experiences of attending Northern Health and Social Care Trust hospitals. Patients were asked questions about the quality of their experiences, including, communication, respect and attitude.
“Responses indicated high levels of satisfaction with care however the issues of single sex wards and provision of information leaflets remain challenges.”
Errol Hutchinson, acting Chair of the Northern Local Advisory Committee said
“We welcome the findings from the Trust and are encouraged that a lot of patients are happy with the experience they have had in hospitals. We look forward to learning how the new measures being put in place to monitor mixed sex wards are making a positive difference for patients.
“We are pleased to learn that patients now have sufficient space in wards, with no additional beds being placed in wards unless in exceptional circumstances.
“It is important that patients have clear information during their attendance at hospital. We are looking to the Trust to ensure that patients can access information in ways which meet their needs.”
The Northern Local Advisory Committee is currently recruiting new members. If you live or work in the area, you can apply. For more information on the Committee, call Jackie McNeill at the Northern office on 028 2586 3950 or email Jackie.mcneill@hscni.net.
