A meeting of the Northern Area Office Local Advisory Committee was held on 24 January 2011 where members shared concerns and priorities for individuals and communities on health and social care issues.
Dr David Johnston, Clinical Director for Dalriada Urgent Care (DUC) informed members about GP out of hours services. Dalriada Urgent Care covers the whole Northern Health and Social Care Trust area which incorporates 432,000 patients from 81 Practices. Whilst the main base is in Ballymena (open 24/7), other outlets that open for limited times include Moneymore, Whiteabbey, Coleraine, Antrim and Larne.
Members of the Northern Local Advisory Committee asked Dr Johnston about various aspects of the services provided, including, appointment systems for patients, access to home visits during the recent spell of bad weather and access to patient notes.
After the discussion Dr Johnston offered members to visit the Dalriada Urgent Care premises at a suitable time for all. The Patient and Client Council appreciates Dr Johnston taking time to meet with the group and sharing information. Jackie McNeill from the Patient and Client Council is attending the forthcoming Dalriada Urgent Care Governance meeting to provide an update of Patient and Client Council activity.
Other issues currently being discussed by your local advisory committee include: mixed sex wards, appointments systems, information being given to patients who leave hospital after a head/brain injury, ambulance cover in the Mid Ulster area and car parking at Antrim hospital and the Royal Victoria hospital.
